When the Mirassou name was sold in the late 1990s, Steven Mirassou chose not to walk away from the family’s traditions. Instead, he protected what mattered most.
He kept the original wine club—founded in 1963, the first of its kind in America—and narrowed the focus to the two varieties closest to the Mirassou heart: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
That commitment became La Rochelle Wines.
Chuck Easley cut his teeth in the wine business at Mirassou in the early 1980s. Years later, when Steven chose to focus his energy on Livermore Valley, Chuck became the proprietor and steward of La Rochelle—not as an owner chasing growth, but as a caretaker continuing a movement.
That distinction matters.
Built on Vineyards, Not Marketing Hype
There is a simple truth in winemaking that rarely gets said: the vineyard determines nearly everything.
Winemakers guide, shape, and protect what’s already there. But the grapes—the place they come from, the people who farm them, the care taken year after year—determine the wine’s true potential: its ability to age, to develop, to express where it came from.
La Rochelle exists because of long-standing partnerships with California’s most respected Pinot Noir and Chardonnay growers. These are relationships built on trust, consistency, shared values, and mutual respect—not contracts or convenience.
We don’t take that lightly.
Our wines stand on the shoulders of people who devote their lives to the land. Their attention, restraint, patience, and love are present in every bottle long before a winemaker ever touches it.
